Destination: Be My Valentine!

Destination: Be Mine!

Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us, and for those of you needing a bit of a nudge as to whether or not it’s worth the effort, this blog will focus purely on that one specific day each year when romantic gestures are not only expected but encouraged and embraced by everyone from teenagers to the elderly!  Valentines Day is the perfect excuse to tell that special someone how much you care about them, whether it’s a new interest or an old love that needs rekindling!

If it weren’t for Valentines Day, my shy and introverted friend Trav may not have had the courage to send a bunch of roses to me at work.  A couple of days later we went on our first date, and we’ve been inseparable ever since! It was an unlikely partnership however we must be doing something right, because this Valentines Day we’ll celebrate five years together, and our wedding is all set for September this year when we make the whole thing official! Funny to think that one simple romantic gesture has led us to a lifetime of happiness together.

So, if you are thinking about planning a Valentine’s day for that special someone, my recommendation (and Trav’s!) is GO FOR IT!

Destination: Life’s a Picnic!

I know it might sound a little clichéd, but I have always loved picnics, and I think if you use unique and personal elements, this is such a romantic and fun way to share your Valentine you care.  Pack their favourite foods, and add some luxury elements such as fancy silverware, pretty flowers and a bottle of champagne.  This is a great idea for the girls wanting to spoil their guy on Valentine’s Day too, because everyone knows the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!

Destination: DIY Romance!

For those of you who can’t afford to buy expensive extravagant gifts for your Valentine – fear not!  Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to put your DIY skills to the test!  There are plenty of great projects online giving tips and ideas on things you can make yourself, but why look any further when you can be inspired by the Queen of DIY – Martha Stewart. Martha’s website has lots of great projects you can DIY for Valentine’s Day.  I really love these sweet felt fortune cookies, which are cheap and easy to make even if you are creatively challenged! You can view the step by step process or video on how to make these for yourself on the Martha Stewart website.

Destination: Hungry For Love!

If crafty DIY isn’t your thing, perhaps mixing up some sugar, spice, and all things nice will win over your Valentine!  There are so many delicious ways to whip up a Valentines day feast, and you can simply choose a recipe that suits your skill level, and away you go!  Trav famously made me a special Valentine’s dinner one year, which involved him hollowing out a pineapple to serve a tropical fried rice dish inside! Not only was it delicious, but I was so impressed that he’d managed to hollow out a pineapple that it made the dinner that much more meaningful!  If your Valentine is a sweet tooth, why not try out this amazing looking recipe from Dessert Living Today.  It looks almost too good to eat!

Destination:  Love, Population You!

If you really want to impress your Valentine, why not think outside the square and come up with a fun, grand gesture that will knock your Valentine’s socks off! Book out an entire restaurant so you can enjoy a private dinner for two, or set up your own little restaurant at home.  Plan a surprise weekend away and take your Valentine to a place they love to visit like the art gallery or a museum. Just try to think about the types of things your Valentine loves, and go from there!

Destination: Hooray for V-Day!

No matter who you are, or how you decide to celebrate, make sure that this Valentine’s day is spent with people who you love. Whether that be your partner, your kids, your friends, or even your dog! Make the most of any opportunity that encourages people to feel warm and fuzzy and get into the spirit of things this Valentines Day.

And who know’s where it may lead you….. a little bit of love can go a long long way!

xx DWB
